  • Towbar After Lift Kit

    I have a Hilux Surf 1992 2.4td automatic.

    I have a 4 inch lift kit on it, the pro comp es3000 one.

    I want to fit a towbar, can anyone advise the following;

    where to get a cheap towbar?
    if any alterations will have to be made as it is now 4 inches higher?

    thanks in advance
    Russell

    Towsure for the towbar, (or one of the breakers on here if you don't mind second hand), and use a drop plate for the towball.

        Stormforce, Lord Lucan and Hilux are the breakers which spring to mind offhand.

        For the plate, anywhere which supplies towbar/towing accessories will stock those, including local motor factors, (most of the time).

          I've only got the one towbar at the moment which is provisionally sold.I got a 3" suspension lift.Before i bought a drop plate i just bolted a 10mm piece of steel plate to the bar to act as a drop plate.I pulled 3t with it and no probs

                I will vouch for Stormforce, I had a towbar from him a while ago. Even came with the bolts and electrics.

                If your truck is an older one then type approval is not an issue. You could get an engineer to make one up for you, the design of the Surf is a bit awkward though, the towbar is not nearly as straight forward as some. The one on mine (not the one from Stormforce, that was for a friend) looks like it has been made up but would not fit with an underslung spare wheel. If you have the rear mounted spare, you could get something made up a lot easier and in the case of mine, a lot better looking than the proper one, it could also be designed so you have no need for a drop plate.

                It's likely to cost more than £40 to get one made, so only viable if you cannot get one from a breaker.
