I have a metallic rattle on my 2.4 engine. Seems to be coming from the turbo area. It is there at tickover when cold, but once the engine warms up it is only evident above about 1200 rpm and regardless of temperature disappears at about 1800 - 2000 rpm. It seems to be worse sometimes than others. It only became apparent after using a tank of bio diesel but I suspect this may be coincidence as I have used bio diesel from the same supplier previously without a problem and am now on the second tank of mineral diesel.
I have tried injector cleaner which did not cure it, I have since tried slackening the injector unions in turn to see if it was related to one cylinder in particular which is not the case. I am due an oil change, but oil pressure and oil levels are all good and have not dropped prior to the issue.
Anyone any experience of a similar issue and what was the cause?
It is not a dual mass flywheel as this is an automatic. I did change the plate about a year ago as it was broken for a second hand one. This had a few cracks but these were welded up. If this werre going again, would these be the first signs or would it be more likely to give problems when cranking the engine?
