  • Whats wrong...??

Hello people..... Right i'm away for a week now so hopefully i'll return to some useful ideas.... I'm about to put a match to my beast...!!
I have just had the engine out and replaced the main crank shaft bearings... But something somewhere has gone wrong..!! its all back together and she sort of runs.... there is s**t loads of smoke.... s**t loads of oil coming from the top rocker cover pipe into the air intake...!! The turbo will not give me any boost.... and she seems to be burning up... the water temp is normal. She did drive for a short distance today, but then stopped...! soooo much smoke!! She will not pull up hill at all, I mean it just sits even with full rev's.. No green turbo light, although i hear the turbo and the engine warning light is on.. codes tell me tubo sensor and con rod positon sensor.... vacum hoses are all connected.... Timing seems at its best as well....
My head is a little right now...!! Any ideas where i've gone wrong or what i may have missed.....??
Always assume the worst.....Anything less is a bonus!!

Why did you change the main bearings?

What was it doing before you changed them?

Are you 100% sure you did the work properly?

Are you competant to rebuild an engine?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

You forgot to ask a question

Should you be allowed anywhere near an engine ?

You were expecting it to run perfectly after the crap you circulated around the lubrication system?

Had a good think all day with a clear head.... (long distance truck driver)
Yes i feel confident striping an engine and yes I know i put that s**t in there in the first place.... The bearings are in correctly.....
My thoughts are now turning to the piston rings.... if I didn't get all the s**t out of the groves it makes sense to me now that when the engine heated up again it may have glued the rings closed and that would explain the oil being pushed up through the pipe at the top of the rocker cover under the pressure and into the turbo... plus the pure lack of power..... and the engine stalling after the chambers were getting full of oil.... Am I thinking along the right track??

Have you checked ALL the oilways?

              Valve seals?

              Camshaft journals?

              Turbo bearings?

              Little end bearings?

              etc. etc. .........

Just bin the engine and put one in from a breaker....

Or silver linings etc... put in a v8 instead...

i dont think you realise just how small those oil ways are. i mean they are like pin holes in places. if you can get one, take a look at the main bearings you replaced. i would be thinking more along the lines that the big ends / mains have gripped the crank shaft solid and thats why it wont turn over. not that the piston rings are stuck in the bores.

even if you do get it freed, i would be interested to see the state of the crank. think it would take more than a polish!

someone mentioned lexus v8. the best thing now would be to ship your car to someone that can do the conversion and then ship them a v8 engine. and there you have a more economical surf with more power.

All shells have been replaced... crank is fine.... The engine turns over and runs..... All seals are fine..... and nothing is f**ked until its in the bin.....
Its only a lump of metal.......!
I know I'm a t**t for sticking the crap in there in the first place, but if it now runs surely i caught it just in time to repair it.....
Thats what leads me to the rings......??? (I hope)
Well i'm home on wed and the lump of metal is coming out again and getting a nice hot bubble bath with candles, maybe a little wine and a chinese..... lets hope it falls for me this time and puts the past in the past and starts to love me again....!!!

Surely the fact that you are asking these questions proves that you don’t really know what you are doing?
How reliable is the engine going to be once you get it running again?

There must be plenty of the little 2.4 engines available so why not just get yourself another engine, or as others have said get a V8 fitted.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL
