Stuck in 4WD

Hi,

I have a 1990 surf and it is now stuck in 4WD
Yesterday I was driving off-road in 4L then when I had finished put it back to H and de-selected the 4WD.
However it is still in 4WD and the button does nothing
Is there anything I can check to find the problem?

Try reversing a few feet. Have you driven any distance on tarmac with the 4wd stuck on? If so, stop immediatly as you could cause damage. alternatly reversing and going forwards whilst sawing the steering left/reight a bit whilst on a loose surface should encourage the 4wd to disengage assuming its simply gotten sticky.

If it still doesn't want to disengage, check the pneumatics (tubing) on the ADD at the front diff, any leaks could prevent the ADD forom disconnecting.

When you depress the button can you hear a relay click low down on the centre dash below the ashtray.

Nope I don't hear a sound when I press the button.
Can I do anything to check the electrics??

may be a relay fault then mate. when i put mine in and out i get a relay clicking noise. cant tell you where to look 4 the relay though mate but some 1 will post to tell you where to look iam sure...........

Very lower part of central dash (under the ashtray) remove this and located behind there is a plastic box, this is the electrics for the 4wd system. Make sure all connections are good.
Also check under motor around t/case & box to see if you may have dislodged any electrical conections from there. When my 4wd failed to connect via a vacuum problem you could still hear the electrics clicking away so not 100% but would say yours sounds electrical.

Everything looks ok, no wires hanging down or connectors off.
Don't suppose anyone has a wiring diragram for a 1990 Mk2 do they??
