can any one help got a 93 2.4 surf comimg back from the coast the heater went in to the red put blowers on and the temp went down a bit and it blow hot air all the time. once at home water was coming out of coolant bottle. once cold i refilled the coolant slowly with heaters open and emptyed the coolant bottle.on starting engine up the water was pumped straight in to coolant bottle from cold. i then cheaked the stat in boiling water and that was opening fine. does any one have any ideas

you could have a blockage somewhere. only fill system through the rad cap not the expansion bottle, this should only hold a few inches

i do fill up from rad cap only..the coolant bottle just keeps filling straight up when i start engine and if i leave rad cap off it pumps out that...this is from cold..

Either a blockage or head may have gone if not thermostat. i had same problem but it was the thermostat

The garage is wrong as you get a 3 month warranty by LAW & they know it

have you tried leaving it running with rad cap off and keep eye on water level? sounds like a blockage to me... airlock or suumat like that.

I've had my 93 2.4 for 600 miles (3 weeks) bought from a London dealer and it appears that I now have the same symptoms as Neal .i.e water system being pressurised immediatly the engine runs, blowing through the preesure cap and into the top up bottle. I had to call out the rescue to get me home from Gloucester!!! once home I now find that the engine will not turn over on the key until about the 3rd or 4th time of asking; I guess it is trying to compress the water left in the cylinders, as when it did start it blew large amounts of water vapour out of the exhaust and the rest of the water came through the top up bottle, it seems that the head has definately gone. I too was advised that I had only 1 month or 1000 miles warrenty, however when I phoned the dealer today he seemed concerned and says that he will get his mechanic to look at it ( he said it could be the water pump or thermostat) however I think not! Can anyone advise on how much, in round figures, would a replacement head cost fully installed? just in case the dealer doesn't come up with an acceptable solution.

Really depends on the labour costs and what they charge you for a head. Places like Uk cylinder heads do brand new genuine head with cam, valves basically ready to bolt on and go For around £590 + VAT. Other places do them cheaper but its a bare head, you need to but the cam etc or use you old ones. So it may be cheaper for you to source the head yourself and get a garage to fit it or fit it yourself.
Which ever route you choose DO NOT get a recon, stitched, repaired head, ensure all gaskets (genuine is better) are changed along with the head bolts. Some have had Garage bills for as little as £1200 and some up to £1900 depends as said on labour charges, main dealer, local garage and the price you are charged for the head. I hope all ends well for you.
