intercooler question

hi guys back again was researching posts for my mod list


bash plate (still need to find one)
extending breathers and anything else for wading (still got to research this)
side entry air intake (does this need some sort or water drain)
front to back roof bars
adding dash switch to control rear 12v outlet
repairing rips in ricaro front seat
oh and thinking of adding some hid spots
and inclometer
side exit exhaust

and came across this thread http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...t=side+exhaust and thinking this is the way im going to go however just wanted to ask may be a stupid question are there any down side to fitting an intercooler does it add any extra stresses to the engine etc also will i experience any lag this way dont want a top maount for the heat soak and dont have a lift just seems easier to the side


apologies if thats a stupid question does it affect gear changes etc

also any help on any of the other mods welcome

Talking out my ring but i dont think you will get any "turbo lag" with that intercooler mounting, and the way he did it as you say you dont need any bodylift, you may get lag with a front mounted one with long runs of hose, as far as i know the engines not more stressed by an intercooler, it may be a bit if you tinker with the compensator and washer out the gate etc,

Definatley want to go for the side mount seems the easiest way of doing it and easily reversable wasnt thinking of messing with waste gate or anything like that also thinking of a way of getting cool air to that cone filter my only concern is the potential noise from the cone filter may look at a way of doing it and keeping the existing airbox

was just worried about the long run from the intercooler across the engine
also thinking about getting the l220 rad with fan any idea if fan should be on top or underneath

hu guys just after a little clarification after reading some conflicting info if i fit a side mounted intercooler nad added a cone type intake filter would i need to do anything ecu etc to adjsut fuel side of things or can this be done manually
