    how much will it cost

    Have a look under the engine, there should be a diff already there!

            My front diff seems pretty solid. It's made of some sort of metal, possibly steel.

              its £1700 from toyota for the bits i need to make here all pritty again
              add the work on to that

                Jud, I know you like your Toy parts but if you need bits for your existing front diff surely Stormforce could sort you out for a fraction of that £1700 Toyota will bend you over for.

                If you want to do a solid axle swap then great and I will be jealous, as it is like way cool innit!
                ... but if its because you see yourself as having to spend nearly £2K that just to get your independant front suspension sorted then just get parts from breakers surely?

                  its all about fun
                  its not going to be for a few months (saving up)
                  a solid diff is a bit harder to kill
                  its all part of a bigger plan
