Hi need help

I have a SSR-X 2.4 TD 93. The problem is that in the morning or when I first start up after half hour or so, it sounds like an old van tappets really loud then after it warms up its not so bad but u can still hear it and I seem to have got a feint clicking from under car as well which I cant find but it gets faster if I rev engine, but not there all the time. Just had the car serviced. Can anyone help I don’t know much about engine, the car is still under warranty I just need to have something to tell them what I think it maybe so they don’t fob me off saying its ok

I found out what my trouble was with the engine. After going to 3 garages. Ended up at Engine Co.Ltd Unit 30, Vernon Mill, Mersey Street Stockport. Steve on here forget what he is called himself, but he gave it a good look at it and said it’s the big ends and its going will cost about £1000, which don’t sound to bad to me. I still have warranty so it’s going back to garage where I got it. I am hoping his after sells service is good fingers crossed. I will let u know how I get on.

Don’t think I will be going on moors romp on the 30th now guys unless they can do something quick for me sorry guys

Took car back today to see what they would say about fixing it. He was helpful, but not happy and is looking into it, but does not think it’s the big end. He is saying it’s the tappets and it’s not a problem. Told him that three garages said the same thing big ends. He seems to think they r just out to make money. Will have to wait till Monday now to see what he finds out. Will keep u posted

Ok latest on car is dealer has had his mechanic to look at engine and he has come up with same answer as steveo did that the big ends r going and he is doing the work under warranty so I am happy about that just hope he does a proper job I just may have to 2 weeks to get car back cant wait to get it back I miss my surf

Ok latest on car is that its not the big ends. Garage has taken it apart and the crank was spot on and the shells looked ok but put new ones in. They will put it back together again today and have a good listen. If no tapping then its ok, but if its still there they say its off with the head to look at pistons and cam to see if there is any damage there. But they don’t seem to know what it is. I will find out tomorrow when its back together. There seems to be a lot of this thing with the surf, things going wrong and no one knowing what the hell it is. Do you think it could all be caused by gremlins like in the film they came from over Japan? Anyone out there got any ideas what it could be.

Might be a dodgy Injector. The tapping could be Diesel Knock caused by bad combustion. Maybe the injector spring is not springy enough or the nozzle is not seating correctly allowing it to weep.

Hi m8
Have just had a very similiar episode, spent eight weeks looking for diagnosis. Turned out to be two faulty injector nozzles. Try that direction.

Ok up date on car, well they sent it to have injectors tested was ok, its had the new shells to crank new oil and all back together and its home yyyyyeeeeeessssss. The garage could not find anything wrong with it, after keeping for 2 weeks and they was not very happy, because it cost them £350 to look at it and put the new shells in and it cost me over half a tank of diesel with them test driving. But the funny thing is I drove it home and could not hear the same problem that I had before they got it. But only been driving round about 20 miles but its not there now. So they did something, maybe it was the shells and they just did not want to say that they was wrong, but time will tell. But its back and that’s all matters right now. I can go on holiday. Will keep u all posted on how it goes and if the problem comes back, fingers crossed.
