  • Vacuum Lines???

Wow, love this site... gained a tonne of knowledge but haven't been able to pick up this one anywhere.

Have an '89 Surf ln130 2lt (mechanical pump) and have just recently had the IP rebuilt. Was having severe problems with idle and power. Now have the power back but the idle is still up and down, and occasionally stalls at lights. Noticed a couple of vacuum lines missing??? on the vacuum switches by the fuel filter assembly.

Anyone have some pics of the area to give me a hand?

    Cheers,

This is the LN130 Vacuum Hose Diagram.

Top circle requires a Vacuum supply connected. This will be somewhere after the vacuum line crosses engine from alternator/vacuum pump. I can't see the bottom one clearly enough. Let me know if you can't figure it out.

      Vacuum Lines???

Looks as though the two I have with no hoses actually need caps on them.

I decided to disengage the choke and it started to run better... but today it's back to crappy idle.

It also takes a very long time turning over before I get the fuel going and it lights up. When I refuelled and took the cap off there was a definite hiss from the cap.

So here I am, runs great when warm... power is good... idles inconsistantly, stalls occasionally... takes forever to light up.

What the hell! Where do I go next?

I can see what you need now that you mention caps. Do not cap. There should be a cylindrical filter on each of the VSVs.

those valves are shut down valves, they choke the motor when you turn off the key, so that it doesn't run out of fuel from the pump and need rebleeding when restarting, it keep deisel at the injectors.

its either back to front, and trying to stop the motor, therefore its struggling to start and idle.

Either dissconnect it completely (make sure the small butterfly valve on the intake stays open), its not that bad without it, just shuts down lumpier, and takes slightly longer to start, or get it working properly

If the vacuum lines are messed up, check your EGR is working proplery as well, it might be on all the time

Then i'd look at glow plugs or a airleak into the fuel system.

A hiss when you take off the cap is normal.

As far as I can see the two hoses to the vacuum diaphragm are in the correct place. Your problems could be elsewhere where they are connected wrongly.

This is providing the EGR valve is not stuck open.

There should be a diagram in previous post. Let me know if you can't see it.

Anyone know where you can get these shut down valves for the VSVs?

                Cheers,
