  • Rear Seat Belts

    Hi,
As anyone had problems with their rear seat belts not retracting, that is they can't pull out or in.

    Thanks

have seen this on other toyotas after a window has been busted... the smallest shard of glass can lock up the mechanism.

the retract/lock mech is normally covered in clear plastic so you can see what it's doing... but you'll need to get it out first.

I had that problem with the rear n/s seatbelt last summer. I eventually freed it by parking on the level and giving the bottom inside of the door post a good thump with my fist, while pulling sharply on the belt and then letting go. It has been OK ever since. I have had inertia reel belts do this on other cars too.
        It's only a hobby!

Not me, all my lap belts retract fine.

It may be that the locking mechanism has jammed, you can disassemble them(which also allows you to retension the retraction spring, good for older surfs where it tends to get sloppy)

            see here for details: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/minutemods/seatbelt/
