  • Head Gasket replaced but revs

Hey Guys. I recently had a head gasket change and engine recon done on my 2.4 SSRx. Its running OK but seems to use more diesel. When at seventy mph the revs read 3500 RPM, this seems a little high, I can't remember what it used to read. Could somebody with a 2.4 please check thier reading when they are at 70mph or if they know what it should read at that speed fill me in.
    Cheers

RPM will be the same as before as long as the tyre size or anything in the drive train has not changed.

Had a look at my tacho tonight. Cruising at 70MPH on the flat at around 2500 RPM with o/d on. If I switch the o/d off at 70MPH the revs gou up to 3500RPM, so I would guess that your o/d is not working. Even up hills on the m/way revs still only a tad over 2500RPM.
          Hope this is helpful.

Its an auto Rob, I don't think it used to that high and that may be why its using up more diesel on motorway journeys. cheers

it seems from looking through this thread that there are slight variations in final gearing. There is a diff gearing code stamped on the chassis plate. Mine also does 70MPH @ 2500RPM and 80MPH @ 3000RPM, which probably explains why I am getting 26-28 MPG and others 22-24MPG. I feel a poll coming on.

Be interesting to see what code your diff has on it.

Mine is definately 3000 RPM at 70mph.

                          Cheers

                            OK, I've double-double checked and I am definitely getting 70MPH @ 2500 and 80MPH @ 3000 RPM with o/d on.

Trans/Axle A343F G144 is the code on the chassis plate. I have 265/70/15 tyres on.

The other "problem" is that I cna't get anywhere near to the redline even with o/d off and ECT on.

Oops Posted before I typed anything

I have a 2.4 Manual and only get 100kph/62 mph at 2950 rpm.I think that sucks.I think I need 4.3 gearing???? Currently have 4.875 which seems to be common on autos.

OK Who wants to start the poll.We need Transmission/Axle Code and Tyre size to make any sense of it all.
