2 Sensors??

Hi Surfers

On m 2.4 TD, on the thermostat housing there are 2 sensors, one on the left and one on the right, obviously one is for the temperature gauge and I'm puzzeled as to what the other one is? Can anyone enlighten me? I've checked wiring diagrams and all pictures tht are in the books but they always seem to show one sensor only - what the hell is the other one for???

Thermo fan switch. Temperature gauge is the one on the side. The other is toward the front.
