  • Rear wheel bearing

I have posted about this before but got little responses (more like a flaming) but I have two surfs, one is engine dead and I am using it as a donor for the second. The rear wheel bearing has gone and I originally asked if I could swap axles......long story but the answers were not much help. Since thinking about it and with some free time can I just take the ? half shaft out with the bearing on and swap it for the one on my dead truck ??

    Cheers
    Mark

The 2nd gens i think are all the same but they will not interchange with a pickup as they are longer

Mark if the new truck is a 2.4 then i can't see why you shouldn't be able to just swap the axels over

swapped mine over this time last year exactly the same, as long as the axle codes match.

probably do the full swap in about 2-3 hours. 3 or 4 ratchet load straps will assist hugely in getting everything lined back up right under the truck. Some of the bolts will be tight (they've likely not been touched for 16 years, so a long breaker bar and an impact wrench will come in handy too if you have or can borrow both.

One thing to watch is the prop, it will come apart at the sliding yoke, so either mark the two parts so you can get it back together and lined up properly, i never managed to get the two bits lined up the same i don't think and still have a vibration now.
