  • Flywheel wear

I've got my engine in bit's awaiting new bits to come to rebuild it and removed the clutch and flywheel to change rear crank seal. The clutch has obviously been burnt out before as the is cracks on the surface of the fly wheel. I also noticed that there is play between the two parts of the flywheel. Is there suposed to be play? Can half be replaced or do you have to get a complete unit?

according to the boys down unda:

    here

'Use a LN106 Hilux 2.8 diesel 89-97 (this model is obvously 4WD) flywheel and clutch, simple goes straight in. That mosel only has one type of flywheel so no making of mistakes.

PS get the bolts for is too as they are shorter than your original.'

I think the UK pickups only have a single flywheel as well.

Nope there are 2 sorts. Up to the early '90's Hilux 2L flywheels were 229mm diameter then they increased the diameter to 236mm (which is the same as the 2.8). For some odd reason the JT series Hiace vans kept the smaller flywheel for another 5 or 6 years

Sounds like a good plan, that's the weirdest flywheel I've come accross. I wonder if the slave cylinder pushrod needs lengthening. Has anyone done this?
