Firstly it's been quite a time since I have used the forum, but when the blakes failed/warning lights on/alarm noise starteded on my 2.8 yesterday i had no idea what it was, anyway typed "brakes warning" into the search and the vac seems to be the culprit, I would have had no Idea so a big thanks to all of you in the know who take time to reply to the posts.
Secondly, wife uses the surf for work and I have me old sherpa van, surf usualy parks on road and van is up the drive so I can get my stuff in or out of the garage/workshop/c**p store. When the brake thing started I ran the surf up to the garage incase I got a chance to have a look when it was dark.
I spent all weekend fitting firedoors at a locak high school so when I finished last night (sun) at about 6.30 it was dark. Reversed van up drive ( slight incline before leveling out about a surf's length from garage doors) Of course I can see up the drive through the mirrors but--- well you know what's coming---whack !!! into the back of the surf. Head in hands - long hard weekend at work, last thing I need is to stuff the back of the surf in.
Wife comes out, bloke next door comes out, I have a look round the back.
The step that sticks out from the back of the van has hit the tow ball hitch on the surf. No damage to surf nad a nice (easy reparable) fold in the van's step.
For those of you who are really tuned in, the reason the tow hitch is at the same hight as tha van step (14") is that when I got it about 5 years ago I did'nt know anythig about them and later found that not all were as low (about 62" to roof). the springs had been cut and different shocks put on. It's great at cornering but no good for off road.
    All the best

It will be your alternator that's the problem if all that happened.
