removing fuel pump....help we are stuck at the summit

Hi All

Attempting to remove fuel pump on 2.4 LN130 to change leaky seals

Made good headway and have removed Timing belt cover, pump drive pulley, fuel and electrical lines and two front retaining nuts (so it should be ready to come out! )

Now the pump will rotate a bit, but won't move backwards clear of casing

found what appears to be a bracket preventing rearward movement

Can't see how to get this bit off as nuts appear to be under the outlet fittings on rear of pump

any ideas?...we've been at this for over 10 hours and it is getting trying with every new obstacle




no instructions/manuals seem to mention this bracket....

not sure bout bracket, but i changed my seals a few weeks ago withiout removing the pump and by only taking the 4 screws from the top and moving all the other bits out the way. took about 20 mins tops.

wish my pump had been leaking from the top :-(

Unfortunately it appears to be coming from the hatch on the side nearest the engine block so pump has to come out :-(

definitely had an anti-surf day today, what a love-hate relationship I lead with them ;-)

there is a bracket on the pump aswell with 2 or 3 bolts fixing it to the block.Once they are removed you will need to take the pully wheel off and then give the shaft a few hard hits to release the pump.It will be a pig of a job but it will come out after a while

Two bolts through bracket to the block and one through bracket to pump. They have to come out and the bracket removed to slide the pump back.

Use an open ended, small, slim spanner to get the bracket nut off. Dont forget its gotta go back on, as well. I forgot, took ages to do it again.

Also, the pump is on a splined cone (?) so needs a good smack with a hammer whilst under tension to get it out, after removing the small semi-circular key in the keyway.

It IS a pig!!!

Thanks Guys, we got there in the end!!

Pump seals replaced, no leaks....putting back was definitely easier....ready to surf again!! woo hoo!

Hopefully it won't have to come out again!
