  • 2.4 Auto - slipping clutch

    Hi,
I have a 2.4 auto ssr-g which has very recently started to "slip" when moving off. I accelerate, the engine revs then the gear kicks in with a jolt and the truck moves off.
Is this knackered or could it just be the oil level in the gear box (I can't check at the moment as I am not at home). Also I have been told you check the gearbox oil level with the engine running. Is this correct?
If it is knackered, how specialised a job is replacing it?
    Cheers
    Brian
    Thanks,
    Brian

Yes check with engine running, check the colour too, it should e a clean red colour, if it's dirty/brown, change it.

Topping up will probably cure your problem, let us know how you get on.

I had same problem recently and drained sump and replaced.

I took out 4 litres but only needed to put back 3 so be careful when topping up and keep an eye on the level, first time I've done it and had mine for 4 years .

It has resolved the slipping problem and I will eventually take off the whole sump and clean filter for better results.

As a tip I jubille clipped a piece of fuel hose to a small funnel for refilling through the dipstick, made life cleaner and easier

Thanks to everyone, it definately looks like that was my problem however I am having dificulty getting an oil level reading. It is not very clear.
            Thanks,
