  • regarding 2.4 head problems...

    i mentioned in another thread that i'm looking for a surf... either a '93 or '92 2.4d.

now regarding head issues i know some of them have, realistically what are the chances of getting a bad one if i buy a '92?

May happen might not, If you have a look at the poll in technical mechanical general you will see that on this forum of those that voted, just over 80% hadn't had any problems.

Problem with a Forum is that people tend to post when they have a problem, very few people will post to say that they had another trouble free day.

I have a 2.4 (1993 with the EFI - 2LTE engine). My head went last year, replaced it myself, and I still think it's a great motor.

    Cheers and good hunting

The problem with knowing the year is the diffrence between when it came off the line and when actually registered. This can be months long.... your car may have been born in 92 but not christened til 93.... this link gives model numbers for those affected. http://www.showmesome.info/hilux/info/recall.htm

Take it with you if you view any.

Our 2.4 head has just gone. It is just a chance you take with a 2.4 unless you buy it knowing it's been done or with a nice warranty to cover just in case. We bought privately so had neither. At least now it's gone it will be done and no more worries....

        good luck, happy searching
Had enough... going to live in Spain....

Personally I don't think that the redesigned heads came until after the 2.4 was discontinued. Mine is manufactured in July 1993 and is not on the list but still had the problem.

          Cheers
