Hi Folks,
New guy here, just bought a K plate 2.4td SSRX ...been reading a lot of data off the net and it now has me worried...what should I be looking out for with this motor?

Hi again,
Its had a reconditioned engine placed into it which has been rebuilt and had all the trimmings done to it at the moment that engine stands at 50k (miles)

If you can get a warrenty on it, then it might help should the worse happen. You shouldn't have any problems, if you look after your truck and it will look after you. Welcome to the forum and happy surfing.

No more than any other motor, regular oil/filter changes, check all levels regulary and enjoy.

I may be asking dumb questions here...

sorry if i am,, but

As I do not have drivers manual,,what's the ECT button for and what's the little red button at the front of the gearbox?

ECT is similar to a sport mode, when it's pressed in, the transmission will stay in each gear for an extra 1000ish rpm.

The red button allows you to move the gear shift lever out of 'P' without the need for the ignition to be on.

Thnaks to all for advice....however!!!!!!!!!

At this time I am finally sat at home after being recovered and having to take my truck to my local Toyota Garage....I have driven the Surf a grand total of 290 miles since buying it last week..This morning the temp guage needle shoots up to red after 30 miles and I pull it over and ask for assistance .. I am now awaiting the Garage ringing me to give me the worst.........

Airlock...a strange phenomenon

So I got my truck back from the Garage and after extensive/expensive testing they can find nothing wrong and say it could have been an airlock....that leaves me with two question;

1. Whats an Airlock?

and 2. How did it get in there?

Any ideas folks

Airlock, is simply air trapped in the cooling system. Happens if the system is not bled correctly.
It gets in there for example if the cooloing system has been drained then refilled.

I suggest you open up all heaters to the hot position to allow the coolant to flow round the whole system. Then check the cooolant levels via the rad cap and make sure there is a couple of inches of coolant in the expansion bottle.

Back to the garage

Thanks nigel and julie for the advice however, I have another issue now! (god help me) ..It is still overheating but now a lot but now there is a broken black plastic plug below the radiator head cap...no idea what it is and I have white smoke coming from my exhaust..I know its can't be the head gasket as I have no white cream under the oil cap or on the dipstick..so it can't be that I am really disheartened because besides all this i really love the truck I just dont want to feel I have been stitched up for £1700 by some unscupulous person and now have to fork out for a new engine which I cant afford so would have to sell the truck at a huge loss...and I would still have no car and no funds¬!!!!!

Btw, stop panicking. Just work through things one by one. Panicking won't help or change anything.
