  • Blowing Hot and Cold?

    Hi,

I am having problems with both the Air Con and the heaters in my 2nd gen 2.4 auto, i'm hoping that the pityful output of the aircon can be fixed by a re-gas, however, the heating seems to be more of a problem, especially given the onset of a true british summer. When i am turnuing the heaters on, they are blowing through luke warm air only, and sometimes its just cold, there seems to be enough air coming through (i suspected a blckage) it just seems cold, does anyone have any explanations or ideas of what might be causeing this?

Could the two problems be related? and will the air con be a straight forward re-gas or does it have to go to a specialist?

I'm not particularly technical or mechanically gifted, but love nothing more than a good tinker on a weekend, so please try and keep it to moron speak for me.

The air-con re-gas all depends on what gas it's currently running. It could be either R12 (now banned), R24 - a direct replacement for R12, or R134 which requires some 'modification' to the system. Have a look in the engine bay for any stickers indicating what gas it's running. If it's been converted to R134 then you can pick up a kit from Halfrauds to top it up. Anything else is probably a specialists job.

The heater sounds like you may have some air stuck in the cooling pipes somewhere. Do a search on 'burping' the cooling system, hopefully that should sort it out.
