  • Tailgate issue

    Folks,

    I have a problem with the tailgate on a 93 2.4TD

When i turn the key from the tailgate the windows goes down, however it does not go up from the key. It does go up from the switch inside the cab but not from the key.

Now i'm new to surfs but i'm thinking this isn't a major problem but has someone came across this before.

Do i need a new lock barrel or is there something likely to be just loose.

    Thanks

    George

you will need to check the wiring going to the barrel and motor and check the wires that go into the tailgate from the body as one of the wires may of broke in the sleeve which is a common fault

I had a spare key cut recently which won't wind the window up. Winds it down and fits all the other locks OK so it might be a bad key.

does your original key work the window both ways. as long as the key turns in the lock, and everything else is fine, it should work. i.e. the key does nothing more than turn a switch, so if it turns its doing its job, and something else is at fault.

The original key works fine, just the copy which works all the other locks. Not really a problem, with a bit of wear, it might even start working. I just thought that the OP might have a bad copy rather than the original key and was encountering the same thing. To be fair, after 15 years there is a good chance that the original has been lost and only poor copies remain for these trucks.
