do you have any smoke coming from the exhaust when you turn the engine over???? if its semi firing you should get a puff of smoke out of the exhaust.are the fuel lines tight behind the pump????

i was getting black smoke ive double checked everything is tight i was thiking of dragging her round block but i dont think this would help just clucthing at straws now

i know i shouldnt say this but have you tried giving her a blast of easy start.if it wont fire on easy start it aint gonna fire at all.

tested glow plugs coming on 4 eight secs glowing this is why my heads banging

After taking a head off, I have had trouble getting the compression to come back up occasionally although not on a Surf. Have you got the valve clearances set right? Could you have timed it 180 degrees out, this is an easy mistake. Check the valve positions when the fuel squirts to No.1 cylinder and that the valves on no.4 are rocking. It could be that no.1 is rocking. This will stop it starting. If it will run on easy start, but not on diesel this is likely to be the cause.

If you were getting black smoke before the job was started, have you had the pump and injectors checked?

Can't think of anything else, I'll keep thinking about it.

Assuming it's getting air, you've got all the ingredients. Must be your timing.

i reckon you have no comp, squit some oil in the bores either through the injector or the glow plug ,but the easy way to bring the oil up is to give it a bit of easy start.
