sump remoal !!

i have eventually managed to remove the front diff and undo all the sump bolts but now i find that to bars that hve something to do with the steering wont allow the sump to drop enough to get it off.....am i doing something wrong or is it neccessary to rrmove these two bars. cant believe the palaver involved just to do this......thanks for any replies.
