  • smoke!

the old bus(2.4 LN130 1993) recently struggled through the emissions test at mot. as it has hit 100000mls i decided to give it some new injectors.brand new not recon, bought from deisel bobs. disconnected batteries for about four hours while changing them.some swearing and missing skin but job done.the black smoke which was annoying has now become embarassing. it smoked a bit setting off and under acceleration but now it smokes all the time apart from when idling.any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Are all your filters and airways clear? Blocked filters or airways are a common factor with black smoke, as is duff timing or an over fuelling pump. Black smoke is always too much fuel for the ammount of air provided.

Have you called Diesel Bob to tell him things are worse since you installed his injectors?

Too much air tends to mean white/grey smoke. I'd be surprised if it caused black smoke. My money is on a duff pump (resulting in bad fuel atomisation), which has been made to look worse with the addition of fresh injectors. But it needs further checking first.

Mine used to smoke under load, but since disconnecting the ERG vacuum pipe I get hardly any smoke now, Have you checked/disconnected you ERG, as it may be stuck open, which may not be the total cause of your problem but it certainly won't help.
