  • Fuel Pump Swap

Has anyone used one of the 5B300 fuel pumps in their Surf? If so, were there any problems, or was it a fit 'n' go?

The reason I ask is that there sems to be 4 different pumps but only one type of injector. This suggests the pumps are essentially the same, just with vastly different prices.

It's electronic, I want to run high percentage of Veg at some point, so can't use the mechanical option.

The new 22100-5B300 pump should be fine on veg oil, as it has the new type seals in it, search for the thread by legendgamesmaster, he did a write up on fittng a new pump, although I think his was the mechanical type.

Been reading about it on the Australian site, some folk say it's Plug 'n' Play, some say it needs recalibrated. Just wondering if anyone over here has tried it.

If it needs recalibrated, I'll just get my own pump rebuilt, if it will PnP, I'll fit a new pump.

I think it's a little bit luck of the draw, and how fussey yu may be about how your truck runs, you'll not know until you turn the key, as these pumps are used in many different vehicles and I think are set to run somewhere in the middle.

There's some dude who's avatar has him and his wife dressed as red indians. He changed his pump for one that was compatible but not the recommended to fit his truck. It was not the apache guy.

Had read the Ausie stuff but missed Andy's post. Still not 100% sure what to do. Diesel Bob recon is about the same money as a new 5B300. But new pump = less down time.

I would find out from your local diesel specialist if it's possible to calibrate the pump once it's in the vehicle, if so, then fit it and see how it goes ( you can have it done later if needed), if not, find out from the suppliers ( Toyota) and the diesel specialists if reclibration is required.

hi boyz, its that 'dude and his wife dressed as indians' here, except i'm dressed as a pirate....

Yep I swapped my pump for the cheaper one, and its 100% fine. not missed a beat since fitting. didnt need to calibrate or anything.

i have my old pump available if anyone wants it - it needs a new fuel shutoff solenoid, and a good clean, but should be ok after that.

I bought my pumpt from toyota. no probs.

Incidently, i ran on bio with both the old pump (leaked) and the new (didnt leak) till my local biodiesel place shut. never a problem using it.
