So if its the rad that has blown then i have a rad less then a year old for if your interested.I would also change the old hose clips for some decent jubilee clips also.
The first breaker i had a few weeks ago the guy carried on driving the truck although he knew it was losing coolant and it was where the top rad hose outlet is welded to the rad which had come away and in the end he blew the head. This sounds as if its the same place as yours has gone so you may well be lucky and get away with not blowing the head by stopping almost straight away.Get the rad replaced and then get the head pressure tested aswell then you'll know if the head has gone.If the garage repair it then ideal but if you got to do it then your looking at about £1200 to £1400 i would say for repairs

Almost certainly the head. Take it back to the dealer and make him fix it, whatever it is. If it's the head, make them get one from Stevo.

For future reference, the 'reservoir' is an expansion tank. It should be about two thirds full, but you need to fill the system through the radiator cap not the tank.

i tried to fix all the little things first in the hope its wasn't the head, but it was!!! get it back to the dealer and tell him to sort it before your 3 months are up!!! it will probable set you back about a grand to get it fixed, so if you just bought it and was not told of the issues with it the dealer is liable and should get it fixed just stick to your guns and tell then what you want and as (i think it was) stormforce said threaten them with trading standards if they get shitty!
it never rain it pours! glad I got the 4X4

radweld will only solve your problem for a short time. sounds like you need a new or second hand rad. i've got one you can have for £40 plus postage.

as for the head going, is the temp gauge rising, you could always buy a compression test.

what truck is it a 2.4 or 3.0l?

DON'T RAD WELD! It's a short term fix at best.

It does sound like it may just be a ruptured radiator. If you're lucky then that's all that needs fixing. If not the over-heat has taken the head (not the head gasket) out. It could also be that the head has gone, over pressurised the system, and burst the radiator. Get an exhaust gas analysis of the radiator water done (most reputable garages should be able to do that for next to nothing), and a pressure test done.

                HOWEVER:

No matter what the problem is, you shouldn't have to fork out a penny to get it fixed if you bought it from a dealer less than 3 months ago. Take it back to them and tell them to either fix it or give you your money back - nothing else. If they need to get a new head done, insist on a head from Stevo from this forum as his heads are redesigned to not crack and will last a long time. If they get arsey, tell them you'll speak to trading standards. If that doesn't shift them, go and see trading standards.

Don't worry about not knowing these things. We all start out knowing nothing, and it's only by asking that we learn stuff.

By head, I mean the cylinder head - the top part of the engine with the valves, cam-shaft, injectors etc in it. The 2.4 has a known design flaw with the original heads. The cooling duct walls are too thin, and over time they eventually crack causing all sorts of problems. It's a fairly involved job to replace the head.

for gods sake dont do or test anything
they can blame your actions as being a contributing factor
Take it back or phone them to reccover it
if there is any investigations to do - get them to do it, if it is a rad, fine it will cost them £100 ish if it is more the potencial is a spend for you of £1200.00 plus!
If you dont mind susidising a dodgy dealer to that extent....fine
I know I am not, BUT If I were you I would back it, get your cash back and look around possibly on here for a 3.0l, stick with a dodgy 2.4 at your own risk, if you accept a repair you are stuck with it and with your self admitted little knowledge how can you possibly know it has been done right
                      Get shot........
                      Oh yes and good luck

I have just looked at receipt for my surf and above where i've signed it says "I have been given full opportunity to examine the vehicle and accept its condition" does this mean there is no warranty?

                          NO!

You have statutory rights regardless of what you signed. And those rights are to have a warranty for 3 months.

TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER

you get 3 months warranty regardless of what the dealer says.

Personally I wouldn't be touching, adding or messing with anything as soon as you do you give the dealer ammunition that it was you that buggered the motor, by doing this, adding that, playing with this etc etc and you end up stuffed.

Simply take it back explain the problem and keep it zipped about the fact you been filling it up every day (again he'll say it was a leaking rad and you stuffed the head etc because you kept driving it)

Its got a warranty stop messing with it and take it back.
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

If it is cosmetic, possibly yes but unless you have got x ray vision and can see a dodgy head or rad then NO
If you had seen a rad pi$$ing water you would not have bought it
If it had steam comming from under the bonnet you would not have bought it
if the engine did not run.............
Advice on here is given freely and to try to help but if you wont listen folks on here are going to loose patience with you
If you are feeling nervous about tackling the dealer, take someone with you
they may be straight, they may say yes OK, they may say no, but whatever make the first move at least you will know where you stand.
Bear in mind Saturday could be a busy day for them with potencial customers around, they are less likely to give you hassle
TAKE IT BACK AND ESTABLISH THAT YOU ARE NOT HAPPY, THE LONGER YOU LEAVE IT THE WEAKER YOUR ARGUMENT BECOMES!
