  • advice please clutch prob

hi guys having a little problam with the truck, i took it out thu/fri eve for short runs and the clutch was slipping quite a lot. went out for a couple of long runs this weekend and by this evening its not really slipping at all.
i,m guessing i have some oil leaking that i have managed to burn off, do you think that would be from the rear crank or gearbox seal?
also if i push the end of the clutch fork back towards the slave cylinder it moves back about 10mm, should it go all the way back on its own?
last of all how many hours labour do you think to replace clutch and seals i changed a gearbox on a little fiat last week but looking at the surfs it looks way to heavy to do myself.
    Cheers, Andy

Replaced the clutch and rear crank seal on mine last weekend, i have all the tools including air tools very long 1/2 drive extensions (you will need them) and it took me 9 hours of pain and suffering. i could probably do it in about 6 hours now i know what im doing

The pain and suffering is all the missing knuckles and the bruises where you roll over onto your tool (No comments, thank you), I’ve changed a few clutches in my time on smaller cars but this is one of the most awkward I’ve done, due to the weight and position of the bolts, I found it was best to release the back end of the gearbox and let it drop quit a bit this tilts the engine down and gives access to the top fixing bolts (top bolts are M12 fine with a 14mm head (socket) the person who did mine before didn’t bother refitting the top two bolts, so I got some new ones and refitted properly, i also found it easier to use 2 ratchet straps to hold up the gearbox whilst removing and refitting, wrap them around the subframe, this allows easy height adjustment to aid refitting.

get a 2 inch body lift add the bolts at the top o the bellhousing became like wee sweeties but the gear box is still the same big lump to get down n back up have fun with it i got my new gear box and clutch fitted for £200 and i think that was a very good price D
