just fitted a new head, having trouble starting it. just noticed heater plug fuse blown and there is no blue compensator on the glow plug rail. would this make a difference with it not starting? has anyone got any ideas? in a piddle

Not sure about the compensator. However check that the insulation hasn't cracked and fallen off where the rail bolts onto the block. Mine had and kept blowing the fuse. Has been fixed with new piece of plastic insulation.

yea the blown fuse would stop it from starting straight away.these motors rely heavily on glow plugs to start.

It'll take a while to draw fuel through too. Check the injector pipes are on the right way too, apparently it's possible to connect them wrong.

Edit: Do you see any smoke from the exhaust when you try to start it?

Glow Plug Rail and its wiring must be insulated from the stud in manifold. Replace/repair these then replace the fuse. Starting the engine when cold, will be very difficult without the glow plugs working.
