  • idle prob

Hi , Can anyone shed any light on a little prob my 2.4 ssr-x has just developed, She fires up no prob and idles fine for a couple of mins then gets really lumpy as if she's misfiring. once she's up to temp she runs fine and the prob dosn't re-occur. I have just serviced her plugs, filters, oil etc and run on 50/50 mix I thought it may be a plug prob but it started about 2 weeks after the service. I can live with it, its just annoying.

Reduce the amount of veg oil, or fit a fuel heater.

I run anywhere from pure derv to 80% veg oil ( even this time of year) and it's only a little lumpy on first start if the temp is near to freezing ( and that soon goes after a few minutes), so I can't see that being too much of a problem, although some engines just run different to others.

Did you change the fuel filter? and are you sure that your new glow plugs are ALL good, and your 80 amp fuse is still intact.

Was this happening before you serviced it??

yep checked all the new plugs before they went in, changed all the filters, and no it wasn't happening before the service although as i said it started about 2 wks after. If it was a prob with the fuse wouldn't it be there all the time?

Have you checked the engine coolant sensor, this gave similar problem's on my 2.4 till it was changed, Are you getting the check engine light, if you are and it is code 4 this is the coolant sensor, it is located above the starter motor.
IT's not how you get in it . IT's how you get out.

Vince is right- it`s the veg oil so dont worry. It will start fine with the help of the glow-plugs and runs for the first few minutes on a secondary glow-plug circuit so the symptoms will occur between when this secondary circuit cuts out until the engines`s at operating temp.
