gearbox leak?

hi, hope someone can help?
i've been noticing what seemed like a fuel leak, with a few spots of oil - took back to dealer as under warranty - they couldnt find any leak - anyway today when i went to collect it we noticed a more oily leak, dripping as it stood. its in garage at moment and they say its a leaking intercooler -i know f-all about engines, but i thought my surf didnt have one! (2.4 td automatic j reg) -just searched here and i think i'm right. i've left message with dealer to tell garage - save them sourcing one! - but should i be worried!!!! cos i am a bit!
they dealer suggests it could be to do with gearbox - the red fluid they said leaking would look like fuel and theyre would also be oil. i'm waiting for a reply from garage , but hoped some of you might know more, and be able to tell me how serious or not this could be -the leak is coming from a box thing (sorry - best i can do!) underneath engine behind the radiator

your right there is no intercooler on the 2.4.
The red fluid you are talking about sounds like ATF which means you have probably a leaking pipe.There are 2 pipes coming from the bottom of the radiator one each side they are the atf pipes going to the oil cooler in the bottom of the radiator so check from there and follow the pipes back and see if you can find the leak

Definately sounds like tranny fluid if it's red, the power steering pump uses the same fluid as the gear box aswell (Dexron II or Dexron III ATF).

cheers - doesnt sound too bad i guess - its in the 'capable' hands of the garage at moment - will wait and see what they say...

maybe they saw the aircon rad and assumed that's what it was....

all sorted i hope - got it back now - garage said it was a leaky pipe thingymajig coming from the doodah situated behind the wotjamacallit under the somethingorother....so i feel much better now
