  • improvements after replacing diesel injectior pump?

    Hi,

cause my fuel gauge already passed the half mark, I just went 230 km. Iīve got a new diesel pump, water pump and a new timing-belt kit as well. Theyīre waiting to be assembled.

Do you think there could be any improvements in relation to fuel consumption. I have to change the pump because itīs leaking. But itīs not leaking that much.

If we gonna replace the pump, is there any need to adjust the injectors?

Thank you all for your help. Much appreciated.
    Denny

Well the first half of a tank is the larger of the two halves as you have fuel in the pipe...

I found that my 93 2.4TD was running at round 15mpg (UK Gallon) which in my opinion was far too low for a standard Surf.

I've now got it to 21mpg. This was achieved by an oil change, oil filter change and by making sure my tyres were at 28psi.

As for your water pump, if you are changing your timing-belt then it's best to change the water pump anyway due their proximity.

By the way, where did you get the diesel pump, water pump and timing-belt kit? Also does the timing-belt kit include the tension bar? It's worth changing the tension bar.

They must have smaller kms in oz, i only get that to a full tank sometimes

Itīs a 5B300 Diesel Pump, brand new. Timing-belt kit and water pump I purchased from east coast 4WD in Sydney. The whole lot cost me about 500 Dollars.

Well, there is not the half tank of fuel left. It already passed the half mark. In other words 1/4 of fuel is left and Iīve only done 230 km in the city so far. My first km on a surf.

Thought I could make 500km without refilling. Letīs hope there will be an improvement. Maybe I gonna change the injectors aswell.

Do you know if they have to be adjusted, after replacing them?

            Injectors are 'plug and play'

              Hey Buddy,

You sure are getting though that diesel.

When I first got my surf, as mentioned, I was running at 15.5 mpg, after an oil change etc I got it up to 21 mpg.

I've now found that I've done 270kms and my fuel level is only now at half way. A vast improvement that I can unfortunately only put down to driving gently

If you want to work out your MPG and make a direct comparison use these conversions: -

              1 Mile = 1.60934 Kilometres

              1 Kilometre = 0.62137 Miles

              1 Gallon (UK*) = 4.54609 litres

              1 litre = 0.219969 Gallons (UK*)

Fill your fuel tank to the top & reset your trip meter.
Go for a drive/use your surf as you usually would.
When you’ve run up some miles (the more the better, this will give you a more true average result) fill your tank to the same level you had before, to the top. (How many litres did it take to fill the tank?)
You now know how may litres of fuel it’s taken to cover the distance miles/kilometres you have covered. Should have everything you need to work it out.

I'd be interested to know what you're running at, keep me posted.

              Good luck

                Hi,

                itīs 17 mpg.

Iīve been driven 400km with 65 litres diesel in city only with the old diesel pump (was leaking).

Now with the new pump, I hope itīs getting better.

But 17 mpg sounds very bad to me.

Forgott something: the surf feels little bit powerless with the new pump, but just a little bit. I have to push it a bit more, I think.

The old pump was a 5B302
The new one is a 5B300.

                  No adjustment done. Just plug&play....
