  • Hi.

Hello I'm a noob to this board, and I just bought this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=012

I would like a few opinions please, I will admit its a bit of a whim thing, but my current Mercedes car is playing me up and I am so fed up with the damn thing I thought a change would be good, its a tad beat up as you can see, but it wasnt too expensive, as you can also see, but it looks honest enough!

I know its not really a tech question, but I couldnt think of where else to put it!

    Welcome to the nut house.

Not a bad price you paid, I was £600 more for mine. Only thing I'd say is that your's doesn't have ABS.

Thats not really a problem for me, I've never owned a car with it yet, the Merc I have is a 1980, this is the newest car I've ever had, the oldest was a 1958 A35! that was a whim thing too, I had a great time with it tho.

I have to admit mine was a whimsical buy too, last motor through at an auction. But despite all the faults it had (has), it's my 2nd favourite car ever. My favourite was a 280ZX.

I am just hoping it will be ok, I know whenever you buy a used car you are taking a risk, I just want it to get me to York in may, and preferably home again, I used to drive Mini's [classics] then I had a Mercedes thing, I still love them... how reliable are these things, I had a Toyota years ago, and it went on and on, I practically had to beat it to death, despite it bieng held together with spit, are these Surf's of the same mettle?

Ive owned two surfs now mate, One 1990 (same colour and style as yours) had it a year - no problems at all! other then trying to run it on petrol but that wasnt a problem at all! It went - not very well mind, an died up the road! drained tank, filled with diesel, fired it up! Done!

Currently i have a 92 Surf that ive had for abotu a year an half. Longest ive ever owned a car/truck. An i love the damn thing! An not a single problem at all. I had a couple of hicups but they were flash moments. Other then that - its still running perfectly

Dont worry mate, you'll love it. As soon as you drive it, they just feel awesome to be behind the wheel of!

you'll probably find lots of stuff that could need doing but if you dont do it in the meantime you can still drive around

So I picked up the beastie today, drove it back from Surrey to Swindon, and it goes really well, driving it through town its really hard to keep it under 50 on urban dual carriageways, especially when I should be doing 40, I love it!

so I am hooked, do I have to start saving for stuff now?
