Low Oil pressure

It would appear from the gauge on the dash that I am not getting much oil pressure, the engine check light comes on (funnily enough only coming on whilst i am on the same stretch of road for the past couple of days) and stays on till I decelerate, tonight It felt like I had not much power

I have checked, and recently (saturday) topped up the oil.

I have checked the engine check light flash on the dash and I got 12 flashes (quickly in succession) the first time I did it, uncoupled the battery and then just got steady pulses which I think is all clear.

Any Ideas?

Code 12 is a pump fault, and is normally a bugger to sort out. Its the Timer Control Valve. Which would explain your lack of power.

Its not related to the oil pressure, is the oil pressure steady, or has it dropped recently.

How does read conpared to this....

What type of oil are you using as this can effect oil pressure.

I have just topped up with 10W/40 Semi Synthetic (it needed ~3 lts to take it to the full mark) last saturday as explained earlier. Yes it normally read a little than this.

At a steady 3000 rpm it just rose off the bottom to go to where the pointer is on the diagram Tony.

However it feels if it has a miss on it, if it was a petrol car i would say I had a plug off, its that kind of intermittent hesitation but not regular.

Hope I am making sense.

If its the timer on the pump whats the answer to that?

TCV is bottom rear of pump and can be replaced. Very expensive though. TCV faults can also be caused by other things such as incorrect timing caused by a timing belt that may have jumped a tooth or two.

Regarding oil pressure, I would give it an oil and filter change if it has not been done recently and see if things improve.

Used the surf for going to work today, going down the dual carrigeway for 12 miles at a aseady 2.25 K RPM (I only ever go a maximum 60 mph in it)the oil needle bareley got off the L. Will change the oil first chance I get

All was fine until the final roundabout about 1 mile from work, when i decellerated the Check engine light came on and I could feel a miss and no power when I tried to accellerate.

Power only returned when the check engine light went out.

I will re-check the codes and see what happens.

Just checked the fault code again and its thirteen flashes, I have taken a video on my phone also, will try and post it on Youtube tonight to make sure I am reading the code properly.

If it is the crank position sensor, got this off the Oz site

It is located behind the fuel pump on the side of the block. It has a plug and 2 wires. here's how you get to it, get under the car behind the front wheel, then put your 10mm socket up toward the front from there. Dont snap the plastic securing lug off when trying the remove it with a flat blade screwdriver, as it might be OK and can go back in with a clean and new o-ring.

You should not have the engine running when testing for fault codes. Clear and retest just to be sure. 13 is Crank Sensor.

Ok disconnected the batteries, went for a cup of tea, reconnected batteries, ignition on and no starting engine, 11 flashes, mine is a 2.4 EFI 1992 manual box

11 is usually nothing to worry about. It will show if the transmission is not in park or neutral or AC is on. Clear the codes again and then retest after it has been driven again and make sure AC is off.

Ok I am now getting no fault codes up, I never use the A/C as it does not work, i will give it a try in the morning.

The oil and filter change has cured my oil pressure problem, the fault light did not come on during the trip to work so will monitor on way home.
