  • Power Steering

My power steering recently developed a judder when turning the wheels at parking speed, its also started to squeel too.....
I'm figuring that this is most likely to be the belt....
    Does that sound logical?
Am going to get it changed, seing as while its loose I might as well....
Is milners as good as anywhere to get a new belt?
Any tips / advice on changing them?
    Thanks Guys

    Yep the belt is loose.

As far as changing them, it depends whether yours has an underslung AC rad or not. If it doesn't then it's easy from underneath, loosen bolt on slider bracket pivot, losen bolt on the slider, move the power steering pump on the slider, remove belt, replace belt, use a breaker bar or something to lever the power steering pump to the correct position so that the belt tension is correct (about 1/2 inch full deflection on the long run of the belt) and tighten bolts. It's easier if there are two of you but still easy with one.

If you have an underslung AC rad, then do the same as above but do it from above and expect to get scratched, swear a lot etc. There is precious little room to do it that way. It is possible though.

    Cheers

I make it 2 votes belt.

When I replaced the head I left a tension nut loose. The symptons where exactly what you describe. I just needed a bit of tension, my belt was/is still good.
