  • Running Cold

Since i replaced the radiator on the Surf in October the engine has been taking forever to warm up. Even on a long run the temp guage is only just off the bottom. I have checked the viscous fan using the rolled up newspaper method and can stop it dead when the engine is cool and even when the engine has been running for a while. I have checked that the electric fans are not cutting in early.

I have a spare thermostat in the garage. Do I need a gasket or can I just use a smear of instant gasket? If a gasket is required I have some gasket card so I guess I could make my own.
    It's only a hobby!

Blimey, that was an easy job. It took all of 10 mins. I see what you mean about re-using the rubber seal. The one that comes with the stat from Milners is completely different.

The engine now gets to normal operating temperature a bit quicker and seems less clattery once warmed up. The only thing is that I did the newspaper test on the viscous fan again and it won't stop when it is stone cold. I had better order the oil.
