  • Reedy screaching sound

Hi all, Any help or advice gratefully recieved. I have just had a upgrade head
fitted to my 93 2.4 surf, supplied by Roughtrax which may I say am very pleased with. Since it has been fitted, when I accelerate and as the turbo light comes on I get a loud screeching through it seems, the dash, which is right where the turbo is. I gave Steve a ring at the engine Co, and he recalled another instance where a new head had been fitted a leak had occured on one of the turbo inlets causing this noise. Has anybody else had similar issues, I have checked all belt tensions ect.

May I say it was not Steve who fitted the head I just rang him, and he was very kind to give me some of his time.

It's most likely one of the rubber connector hoses between the turbo and the inlet manifold/throttle body. A jubilee clip may be loose or there is a split in on of the connectors.

It can be one of the metal gaskets on the turbo to manifold flanges letting air by , these vibrate just like a reed as you described.

Sorry its a bit late, but the problem with my screeching sound was the 90 degree pipe from the turbo to air intake, I,ve duct taped it up and my Surf is now cured and runs like a dream again, also the pipe going onto the filter housing is a bit scruffy so I will replace that as well. I didnt open the turbo repair kit so good ol Barry at Roughtrax is going to swop for me. Ps they do a nice looking blue silicone pipe which goes onto the filter housing.

Still havent seen or heard that series one yet am keeping eye out.

              Thanks for all who helped..................Webbo
