  • Can Anyone Help Please ????

Hello, I have a Surf with problems.
It has just had a new head fitted due to engine overheating, at the same time it had injectors recon'd, new water pump, new thermostat, new pressure cap, new rad and even new hoses. The problem now is it will only go around 1 or 2 miles before it starts to get hot,the rad top hose goes very hard and it also fills the expansion tank to the top but not over flowing, the turbo is getting rather hot aswell ( to the point theres smoke coming from it) . I have tried it with 2 different pressure cap's, ive tried it without the thermostat in and i have made sure there are no airlocks in the system but it is just the same. I was told it maybe a cracked block ????? Does anyone have any ideas ?

OH!! And it will sit quite happy ticking over all day but as soon as you drive it down the road,Wak Wak oops. Thanks Dave.

Who told you it might be a cracked block, That's a big chunk of metal to crack. Who changed the head, was it new, uprated or 2nd hand?

Did you see proof that the work had actually been done? The symptoms sound like the classic crackus headus. The cost of a new uprated head alone will cost around £1000 fitted.

I have the paperwork that says it was done,it says the head was a recon that cost £360, it is black in colour (not mucky) it has all new gaskets. Why would the turbo get so hot though ?

If its got hot again since it probably cracked its head again, especially if its a standard Yota head. I trust you got it at a lower than norm price because of the runnin difficulties?

The turbo will get hot it has exhaust gasses being blown through it, why it would smoke i haven't a clue. Recon heads aren't necessarily the best option. Take it to a decent garage and get them to pressure test the head, this will tell if it has gone or not. Exactly the same happened to my old 2nd gen and it was the head. Good luck with it.

I only paid £452 for it, i know the turbo gets hot but when i say hot i mean REALLY hot and smells/smokes. Ill get it pressure tested tomorrow and go from there. It might end up back on ebay where it came from lol .

Turbo may be overboosting ior gubbed, you get another for about £50, and who cares at £452 that was a bargain. Contact Stevo for a new head his are indestructable and you get kit all in delivered for £675. Still a cheap truck mate, and one that will run and run

Sounds like the wrong head has been fitted.

your car pressurises, itll overheat, and your turbo will get really hot and probably start to smoke.

My mate has a surf which is the same as mine, the top hose on his is hard after a few miles and the expansion tank is full same as mine but his runs fine.

expansion tank will fill with coolant as the engine gets hot and when cooled the level goes down again.
Could be a multitude of things, head gasket fitted wrongly, the recon head is already knackered, air locks etc etc.
Get head pressure tested and go from there.
