  • 2LT Pistons & Cylinder questions

    Howdy mates:

dismantled the Mk1 2LT - no.4 piston has chunk chewed off just above no.1 compression - no.1 compression broke / also very worn - 3mm wide groove .15mm deep - have yet to check ridge at bottom

already been bored to .5 over - correct to say cylinder cannot be replaced , yes ?

Anyone have experience with rebore and sleeving - not sure if punching out to 1.m is the way to go

What of aftermarket pistons - are there any as good as Toyota quality ?
What of rings ? a better quality

dunno if the Mk1 is still even driven on your side of pond - are pistons same in Mk1 as to Mk2?

    Cheers:

According to the original Toyota manual, if the bore is oversizes by more tham 0.5, then replace the block.

I don't know of any aftermarket piston and ring sets, but it may be cheaper in the long run just to replace the engine.

He's in Oz (at least I think he is), so might be best to email or post up for him, as it could be dear on phone calls.

Here's a link to his contact details,

Couldn't find an email, apart from the user cp, but I'm not sure if it will work for non-paid up members, so I guess it's a telephone call then.

            Howdy Mates:

            cheers for the info

nope - Desert Southwest USA - Is confusing a bit - as Toyota sells 1.0 over pistons

these engines were only available in North America for 3 years - possible one more in Canada - so not allot of pickings here - and chances are what is available from salvage is in worse shape than mine-

Will seek out stevo and see what all I can find - prefer to sleeve/ re cylinder one than punch out 4 - new pistons of course

Sure you'll hear all about it

            Cheers:
