Hi all,new to all this thread business and just bought a new surf 2.4td 1992. My wheel alignment is obviously out by looking at tyres, but garage and others can't be sure as to correct settings. Tried looking at other postings and searched the net but not sure if they are correct for my specific vehicle as there seems to be different years of surfs / 4runners etc and when looking in the garage's tracking book it gets worse with loads of different models and the difference in the settings between all of these is huge. Even tried the best tyre place in town with laser computer thingys and they said I'd have to tell them the settings for this one! Can anybody point me toward the exact settings for my vehicle. Thanks.

Toyota would know (but are not likley to provide the data to a garage) try roughtrax website, they have quite a lot of servicing info on the 2.4Originally posted by BlackdawgHi all,new to all this thread business and just bought a new surf 2.4td 1992. And take it to a specialist who can do a full geometry check, camber, caster, toe in toe out. They will know the settings and what needs done. Id be willing to bet that a simple tracking check is not what you need and that is all that most garages or tyrefitters are capable of and thats why they " dont know what to do"
It will cost you around 60 quid but only getting alignment done will cost you expensive rubber.

Well you don't really, unless the wheels are obviously/visually out of line and pointing in odd directions, but if you've been off road, or don't know if it's been done recently, it's wise to have it checked, as the cost of rubber will soon outway the cost of propper geometry set up.Originally posted by dieselboyhow doyou know if you need a full geometry setup?
The trouble is, people take these vehicles to quiksh1t and they set it up as a hilux, and then the tyres wear unevenly, so they take somewhere else, and they bugger about with it a bit more, and in the end it is just a pig to drive.
This is what I did until I was pointed to someone who knew how to do it properly, and had the correct info on these vehicles, and when he tested it he found that an inner and outer track rod ( on opposite sides) were u/s, and the steering idler had too much play in it, so it could not be set up at all.
Three tyre places failed to see this, ( and they profess to be experts) so I ordered the parts and fitted them, and took it back to the man, he set up the full geometry, and now it drives fine.Rob
Still working for the man!

If youve got uneven tyre wear ( eg insides or outsides going fast) youre as well to get the full check done theres so many ways these things can go out and tracking is usually the least of them. Its better to pay the bit extra and be sure its right, rather than watch your 100 quid BFGs waste away on the outside onlyOriginally posted by dieselboyhow doyou know if you need a full geometry setup?
