  • Are the 2.4TD's fairly quick?

Some say they are sluggish others say they are quite responsive.

Depends on whats been done to them in Japan and over here . Mine is quite quick ,and i have a big bore exhaust and a snorkel , against a standard one

Well, a week ago mine was sluggish to the extreme - 40mph up that huuuuge hill on the M62.

But then I discovered that 3 of my turbo vacuum pipes were connected up uberwrongly.

Now the truck moves like one of those hippos from Fantasia.

Well I find I can out accelerate HGVs and Steam engines. But I don't think I'd like to try outdragging anything with an engine. I didn't get her for racing though, she does impress when it comes to sheer tuging.

Will depend on what you're comparing with

                A car - NO

                  2.4 3.0

Had a 2.4 did the head ,Power flow exhaust, egr mod, 3mm washers under the turbo plate.Swapped for a 3.0 litre. I think on standard engines there,s a 37bhp increase. Correct me if Iam wrong .

Mine's no sports car... the highway acceleration is on a par with a 1.0l Corsa. Pulls well up hill, but I wouldn't want to tow anything heavy with it. No noticable difference when it's stuffed with people and their bags.

In town is surprisingly good, with all that torque, it will keep up with nearly everything.

Going up steep motorway hills is very noticable. The steep stretch of the A38 heading into Devon drags me all the way down to 55mph.

It would take it. These things are natural pullers. I regularly have 1 tonne on the back. Did a long distance run with 1800kg on the back with only a 2mpg drop in power. I've even done a short run with just under 2.5 tonne. (the 3.0 do it better though[/SIZE])

Am I basically screwed with a late 92 2.4 stock cylinder head? Someone said later versions the engine had less issues.

on the later 93 2.4's the heads were changed to the 2.8 3l heads which people call the modified heads. Its pot luck really if the head goes but if it does you can get a replacement easy enough but it cost a bit tho

Mine keeps up with a 1.5 DCi cleo ( if I keep the revs up about 3000), which weighs about a kilo, so not too bad

if your deciding on the 2.4 or the 3.0 then go the 3.0

if you have the 2.4, then get a better air filter, intercooler and big bore exhaust (2.25" or 2.5" bore)
then increase turbo boost to 12psi and feel all that extra power

and then run it on veg oil and feel some of that power lost again, but notice that wallet get fatter
                              Oh Nana, what's my name?
