How much should I pay for one of these? Mine is hot at the top and cool at the bottom... A common fault with unflushed rad's?

The head went on mine when the previous owner had it replaced but he didn't replace the rad..... I had black gunge in the overflow box etc.....

i think you'll find the rad is ok as its meant to be hot at the top and cooler at the bottom as the hot comes in at the top and is cooled down as it goes thru the rad and out the bottom.

it won't hurt to give the rad a really good flush out and make sure you have all the air out the system when refilling

i did mine a few weeks ago it can be done with the fan in place but allot easier to remove it!! its only 4 bolts but it took me a good few hours to do makesure you give the system a good flush out with a hose pipe before re fitting the new one.

1/ set heaters to the hot position
2/ take rad cap off and thermostat out and replace thermostat housing
3/ insert hose pipe into thermostat housing
4/ go and turn the tap on
5/ leave tap running and hose in thermostat housing for 30 mins to give the system a good flushing.
            6/ go and have lunch
            7/ turn tap off
8/ take hose out of thermostat housing
9/ Put in new thermostat and replace housing
10/ start to fill the system with coolant and make sure heaters are set to hot (see no 1) and that the expansion bottle is 1/3 full
11/ turn engine on and leave to tick over and carry on topping the coolant up as needed. When no more coolant is needed fit new rad cap.
12/ take truck out for a run and return home and turn off engine allowing coolant to cool down.
13/ once engine has had time to cool remove rad cap carefully and check coolant levels again.
14/ repeat the burping as above (from no.11) if needed.

              Ok cool, but three questions.....

              1. Where is the thermostat housing?
              2. When you say 'collant' do you mean cold water?
              3. Where does the water run out of when I pump it though, is there a tap I need to open on the bottom of the radiator?

3/ yes or take the bottom rad hose off

The wife said that wasn't an idiots guide cause i never said about the thermostat housing ....LOL

Not sure if Halfords do it but try a Toyota dealer

the important thing to remember on a 3.0l is that the coolant needs to be alli friendly cos of the head!
I believe that this is not the case on the 2.4 - steel head
Did I mention I have a BLUE one
