sticky speedo needle

Hi everyone,
a small but annoying problem has started with my surf. The speedo needle seems to get stuck around 50 mph, as your slowing down to a 30 zone the needle does'nt move then all of a sudden it flicks down to the correct speed. Its the same when you accelerate if your driving around 50 mph and accelerate the needle stays still and then jumps up to the correct speed its as if the needle is sticking around the 50 mph mark. Is the needle driven by gears/ cable, or is it electrical, any info would be much appreciated.

I think I've found the answer to this problem, its just me being lazy, I should of searched the forum before posting the question, it looks as if the needle is actually rubbing the MPH overlay I would'nt be supprised if the old KPH face is still sitting beneath it as the back light is really dim compared to the rev counter.
