engine cuts out will not start

can anyone help me ? fuel light was on went to garage to put fuel in traveled about half mile no problems stopped at roundabout tried to pull away no power whatsoever finaly got away at a speed of about 5mph traveld about 500 yards engine cut out .engine turns ok but will not start any body any ideas

did you put diesel in lol

turn the plug at the bottom of the fuel filter and drain a little bit of fuel out of it, make sure its derv matey
