Hi all, i am about to do an engine change , i have a 1992 2.4 surf 3 door manual with a dead engine, i am going to take the engine from my 1993 2.4 surf 5 door automatic, i know i have to swap over the flywheel etc but will there be any other problems?.

If they are both EFI motors I don't think you'll have any problems.

      efi

Yes mate they are both efi 2l motors, i am thinking about having a motor sent over from the uk though, this way i have 2 good toyotas, depends on the cost of the motor. The dead motor was overheated and has lost compression, i dont want to chance just a cylinder head in case the bottom also had it..

        Swop

Hi when l 1st started importing Surf,s l asked about buying engine,s and l was told on the 2.4 T/D a engine for a automatic was 65,000yen and engine for a manual was 75,000yen. l asked why the difference in price they said crank smaller on auto than manual fuel pump different and all inlet manifold parts where different. l never bought any but l have several 3litre diesel engines out of auto,s and manuals the cranks are the same bolt spaceings but the fuel pump and manifold parts are different. Before shipping the engine out find out if the cranks have the same bolt hole spaceings. The other parts will change over.

Ah thanks for the information, i have looked at the prices for recon units and by the time i add shipping they work out mega expensive so i have 2 other options, firstly i could just take the engine from my auto hilux and stick it in the manual, second option is to look at what engines are available here in spain, there are plenty of 4runners about but i am told they are different so i guess i go to the breakers yard and look, ..
My good truck is on an english plate and my broken truck was originally on an english plate but was changed to a spanish plate, hence why i want to put the spanish registered truck back on the road, lately the guardia have really been cracking down on uk plated vehicles that have been here over 6 months and a few have been confiscated. For anyone considering bringing a uk plated car here permantley there are some changes to note, the government here in southern spain are trying to ban the import of vehicles which were not originally built for the european market, next week i will find out if this law will stick as my friend is going to try and import a surf, theres nothing to stop you bringing them to spain but when you try and register it on a spanish `plate they are being knocked back.. Anyway im off to look for some 4runners.
