I have a 2.4 TD surf 1993 ssr-x model, had it just over a month and been to belgium, france and Devon a few times in it with no probs. BUT, when returning from Devon last week, a noise started to appear as the revs went over 2500 and the tubo light was on, come off the gas slightly and the noise went, but as soon as you give it gas to acellerate the noise would be back and sounds horrible!!
I got a bit worried at first but drove it fairly steady till i got her home( Canterbury). Have had the hood up and took the rubber intake pipe off so i could see the turbo impeller blades, started the engine, no noise on low revs, but as i pulled open the throttle up to about 2500 revs the noise was there! it was coming from the backend of the turbo, the ehaust part, so I am totally baffled as to what it is and how to fix it! I am reasonably mechanically able, but never had a diesel turbo before, so not too sure what to do! No decent turbo specialists around here and i havent got shed loads of money, but saying that, the surf is a damn good one with no head probs and is super clean and reliable so i want to get it sorted! Ive got a trip over to Belgium in 2 weeks time and need to take the surf so if any one can give me any ideas what is the problem and what to do myself to fix, i would be grateful.
Thanks guys!
