  • 2.4Td MPG??

could someone tell me if this is normal please. I filled up my surf a few weeks ago and zero'd the mileometer but only managed to get just over 320 kms before I had to fill up again

I have an automatic and know that this will burn more fuel but I think on these statistics it just does not sound right?? or am I being a bit melodramatic!!

If it does seem to much does anyone know why this would be happening I do know that the air filter has been checked and is OK but apart from that have not got a clue what else to look for..

could someone please enlighten me cos if this is the norm then will have to think twice about keeping it :-( just getting used to it and like driving the motor..

my economy's just gone UP to 300km/tank, about 17.5mpg. Keep it i'm sure they are meant to do more than that. I just haven't found out how yet.

How much anyone wanna bet the next post will say.....

        Almost identical figures as above.

Typical 480kms to 54ltrs which works out to about 25mpg.

I'm doing about 1000kms a week up and down mid Wales so its through the twisties, not motorway driving.

Fill up, zero odometer, note how much fuel you put in.

              Drive a long way.

Fill up again. Do some sums.

And there's always one, isn't there!

OI! I was just going to suggest that

I get about 200 miles (320ish kms) from 3/4 tank on the 3.Oltr thats round town and a hilly one at that, about 100 - 150 more miles per tank on a run.

As for the 2.4 I havent got a clue....... the mileometers broken!

It all depends on the driving style, OD on ECT off is the most econmical, and the comment about a drawing pin might not be a stupid as it sounds.

Also fuel consumption will go down when the transmission reaches "lock up" as there will be no slippage from the torque converter, on my motors this happens at about 50mph on the 3.0ltr and about 44mph on the 2.4

I would say that you aren’t doing that many miles then?

I visit the petrol station at least twice a week (getting 16 mpg from my V6 petrol).

You don’t buy this sort of vehicle for its fuel economy, so if you are only doing a limited number of miles, is the extra cost of fuel really going to make such a big difference?
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

Hey... Surely the car is 'less' economical with the OD on isn't it?

Please advise, I might be doing this wrong coz I drive with the OD off all the time........

It's more economical in Overdrive. It's what that extra gear is for.

i got the surf for the looks and the drive of it and the mpg don't come into it unless it goes really low which may or may not happen
If i was bothered about mpg then i would of got something smaller and more economical
