      transit exhaust

Cheers for the tip but this is a budget motor. It was only £250 with 4 months mot, and needed an Alternator, cv joint, and fog light to pass this year, but it is seriously cosmetically challenged. rusty door bottoms, rusty chrome bumpers, grubby interior. I bought it for crashing about in fields going shooting etc...I did have a nice 4runner till it cracked its head....and broke my wallet. If the transit section fits it's £46 plus clamps etc.I think its about £176 for the main part and I'll also need the flexi section...Cheers anyway, glad to hear you're pampering your motor...mine just gets oil, water, grease and filters.

Vince (bushwacker) put a transit front box on his surf with a side exit pipe

          Here's mine....

          http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...hlight=transit

I'm not 100% sure it's a Transit box, but it was the same diameter as the Surf's and it needed a bit of cutting and welding to get it to exit where I wanted it to, plus I cut the flanges off the old exhaust and welded them on to the new silencer so it could be just bolted on.

Pretty much any silencer thats about 18" long and about 6" + diameter will do as the one I fitted hasn't made the exhaust any louder than stock and it is half the size!.

Top stuff from you guys again..I was hoping that the diameter of the pipe and flange from the transit would match the surf's front pipe. Is the surf's pipe about 55mm diam? Im not too bothered about hangers or tail pipe, I but there's nothing really to scavange off the old system so the more tips and hints the better! Do you know which type/year of transit your box was from?

MMMMMhhh, spring evenings with skint knuckles and the smell of welding on the breeze!!!

As I said, I'm not 100% sure it was from a Transit, it just looked similar to a Transit exhaust 'cos I've had a few Transits in the past , and it looked similar to the exhaust on my Transit. I got it from a sc rapyard, it was in a skip full of old exhausts, and some of them may have been Transit exhausts!!

How many times can you say Transit in a post?

I really should read posts more carefully...sorry Vince I see it "might be off a transit"..case of seeing what I wanted to see....usually the way I buy motors!
While I'm on with the experts...I need new tyres soon, currently on origional Chrome steels with 215s (no laughing) but I also have a set of tatty alloys off the old 4runner. 15x8JJ I think I was running 31.5X11.5s on the 4 runner on wide rims but what can I squeeze on the stock tatty rims? I have a low spec non plastic wheel arch 89 2.4.....Also I have sad soggy rear springs so....(anyone see where this might be leading!) Whats the scoop on lifts..I've read a heap of posts but am still a bit confused... Was going to go with simple(and cheap) 2 inch body lift...so should I get stock length rear springs or do I need longer srings and uprated shocks?... I should spend the time and money on fixing the door bottoms but where's the fun in that...oh aye do 2 door hilux doors fit? So to sum up: Which tyre size with which lift? please, thank you, lovely job, etc

Fit Milners 20% uprated springs (£40 per pair) these will bring the back up to factory height but will be firmer .
Bodylifts do just that, lift the body off the chassis, they don't alter the suspension height.

As for tyres, you can fit 31/10.5/15s on a narrow bodied Surf.

                    top stuff again, thanks alot.
so it's exhaust, springs, tyres and body lift for me, are those the biggest tyres I can get in with a 2 inch lift and 15 inch rims, I also have an old set of 16 inch wellers off a shogun, don't know the rim width tho, With your wisdom what do you recommend?

The Shogun wheels will fit, but the off-set is different to the Surfs.
                      Use 265/70/16 tyres.
You could fit wider tyres, but they would stick out from the arches and you'll need extensions if you want to MOT the truck.

Vince the wheel arches don't come into the mot if the wheels stick out further. It is down to the police if they want to pull you for having wider tyres. This is what my mot tester told me
