Here is a bit of information that I found in the Aussie SURF Forum. It's about recall notices of Jap Surf units that were prone to overheating problems. Something to do with defective head gaskets. Blown head gasket causes overheating...overheating causes cracked head. Maybe the solution to a lot of the cyl. head problems could be as simple as a replacement head gasket.

LN130 is the 2nd gen with the 2L-TE 2.4L TD
KZN185 is the 3rd gen with the 1KZ-TE 3.0L TD
