The new Toy developed a nice screaching noise the other day, (after Linda used it )
Started to pull the belts off to check all the spinning things at the front of the motor, before getting to invovled. Everything was OK, till just the water pump and alternator left on, removing their belts cured the noise, so made a belt up to run just the water pump, no noise, then the alt. again no noise!
Hummmm thinks I, so put the proper belt back on, run the motor again and then noticed that the crank pully was moving in and out. Take the front 2 accessory pullys, then pulled on the harmonic balencer pully, and low and behold......
The hub has disconnected its self from the rubber of the damper, leading to the screaching noise as it spun on the hub, and in all probabilty, the reason for it getting hot, as the pump won't have been pumping properly.
Investigation found, as expected, garage chimps had used a three leg puller to remove it when doing the cambelt it had before we brought it, resulting in just pulling the pully from the hub, instead of the whole thing from the crank. ######s! hehe.
The truck has a nice new rad, new hoses, stat, etc, so someone has been playing with it before offloading it as we suspected when buying it!
pic of the front if anyones interested......
