  • Head gasket?

Hi all. Bin reading the forum for a while since gettin a '93 2.4, and found loads of info to sort all sorts of niggling probs, but now i need proper help!! Its bin gettin progessively smokier n harder to to start for a coupla months now, so thought Id have a good poke round. Sadly, i found leak from the head. Not bad, just a tiny oil bubble now n again just below the inlet manifold. I already know bout the prevailence of head failure, but is it poss that it IS only the gasket? theres no oil in the water or vice versa, it still pulls 95 top end without a struggle n the temp guage never wavers over halfway. The other thing is that when its been turnin over n tryin to start, theres a deisel leak. Not bad, only a drip, and it stops once its runnin. Got a lot of pressure under the rocker n oil blowin through the breather pipe into the air hose n turbo. A mechanic says it might sump pressure from worn bores but I got good steady oil pressure. Any advice from y'all would be great.

You need new glowplugs, as they need to be working at full heat in this cold weather.

It doesn't sound to worring at the moment, but keep an eye on it.
If you drive at speeds over 80mph for a long time, and often, then you're asking for trouble regarding engine life!

Where is the leak coming from? It could be the seal on top of the fuel pump if the leak is on the passenger side.

    He would be right!

      nice one

Thanks for that. I generally dont drive much over 50 or 60 anyway, just span her out to see if I had any power loss. Yeah, the fuel leak is on the passenger side, but why only when its tryin to start? if I got that much pressure in the rocker, do I need to think seriously bout a rebuild in the near future, an is it worth takin the head of to do the gasket n poss put a new head on? found a place called the head centre who can supply a new modified head prebuilt with cam, valves etc at £360.
